When Rocks Cry Out

Natures lessons are abundant and a blessing.

From a child, I enjoyed working in the soil for short spouts of time motivated by the prospect of return from the Ground. This activity was encouraged by my paternal and maternal grandparents, who both had
significant farms on their islands off Eleuthra and Crooked Island. Their years additionally
was loaded with varieties of native fruits. As children, when I did not go to spend time with them,
they would regularly send provisions from the islands on the mailboat. The mail boat is a significant mode of transportation here in the Bahamas between the islands weekly which
primarily transport mail on behalf of the government from the capital to the family islands, and secondarily freight and passengers to the islands.

When I became an adult wherever I reside, I try to grow something. So I have my little garden with a few items presently. My focus, however, is to get one type of every native tree I can in my yard. So two weeks ago I got a Breadfruit tree. It’s my second one. The first one never caught its breadth and died. This one, however, had already begun to show signs of life.

Here is the punch line for this week, however. I would sometimes get discouraged in sitting on a bin and weeding the garden beds in preparation for the next planting. Just reaped some
callaloo. A few tomatoes, pigeon peas etc. and with all the rain the bed grew with some many weeds.

However, I was encouraged this week as my cousin Elton on Crooked Island one of the worlds best bone and fly fish guides in the world farms as a hobby in his garden, and he posted a video of him cleaning up his garden bed in preparation for planting again.  By the way, we need a tractor for that Island to help to GROW our own food.

He was not sitting on a bin as I sometimes do, neither was he using a cutlass; he was using a pickaxe to dig up rocks and weeds and turn the soil at the same time. I tried that this morning, and it was much more productive.  Yet still a lot of work.

This morning forty-five-minute garden experience taught me the following things.

  • There is always a more effective, efficient, and productive way to get the job done.
  • Iron Sharpens Iron, connect with other people and derive ignited thoughts.
  • Where there is soil, there are rocks, so rocks can be converted into the soil, so never get rid of the rock, just prepare them for conversion.
  • Water can revive even that which is withered.
  • Vitamin D is available free in the sunlight so get out and about in your garden. In so doing it also opens the mind to natures lessons.

Invigorating!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
